with slope for the dark side of the sound

This is a Google translation of a German review for the new Orb LP, which everyone should rush out and buy. Dr. Alex Paterson and its illustre crowd at fellow combatants, to which an ex palace foam castle member is to be counted exactly the same like Killing Joke Bassist Youth, wrote in the early 90's with their epischen and chilligen interpretation of Techno history. David Bowie and Aphex twin soon already belongs to the avowed The Orb Fangemeinde. ", first after Studioalbum three-year Abstinenz, The Orb proves Bicycles & Tricycles "once more than sensitive Collagisten with slope for the dark side of the sound. The Orb never sheared themselves around categorizations or other drawer thinking. How otherwise could they have established ausufernde sound worlds like "A Huge Ever Growing Pulsating Brain That Rules From The Centre OF The Ultraworld" or "Blue Room", itself somewhere in the schnittmenge of Acid, Ambient , House and whi...

Ooo Ooo Ooooo

Just read an excellent interview with A Guy Called Gerald on Little Detroit , and was reminded of the sleeve notes for 'Voodoo Ray' on 'Flux Trax': "The only techno classic you can recreate on a pub piano with four drunken friends on handclaps and 'Ooo ooo ooh's"

Fads

Just listened to the Soul Jazz reissue of A Certain Ratio 's 'To Each'. Really great stuff, I'd not really listened to them before the current vogue for Punk Funk as played by The Rapture, !!! et al. Punk Funk pushes all the right nostalgia buttons for me, reminding me of the Mondays and The New Fast Automatic Daffodils . 'Pigeonhole' is the great lost Madchester album, a heavy dub feeling and surreal vocals. All together now: 'His presence is fireside chat... '

Blondes have less fun

Blonde Redhead at the Po Na Na. One of my friend Miles' favourite bands. Must admit I'd never heard of them. They were very striking, a trio made up of of Italian twins and a Japanese singer, and played arty, angular rock. One or two nice moments, vintage synths and a great drummer. Miles was disappointed, so I'll assume that this was an off night.

Plaid in full

Saw Plaid with visuals from Bob Jaroc . Particularly enjoyed 'New Family' , which seems to employ questions from a psychological test for psychopathy. Another (new?) song used pictures of Tokyo combined with dental surgery to unsettling effect. Bizarre audience, who spent approximately half the duration of the gig queueing for beer.
